It is emphasised that ‘A’ grade walks are strenuous and should only be attempted by those with high standards of fitness and stamina and who are also properly equipped and clothed for the conditions.

Leaders will quite properly turn away those who do not meet these standards as they could create difficulties or danger for other members of the group

Track onto open hill. To Beinn Cheathaich and round to Meall Glas.

Terrain: Trackless open hill.  

Distance: 10 km, duration 7 hrs, tot ascent 900 m to max ht. 959 m.

Start point: End of road in Glen Lochay.

Twixt Clyde and Leven

Moorland walk on hill tracks and sometimes wet bog areas. Return to start via river Leven tow path.

Terrain: Moorland with boggy sections.

Distance: 11½ km, duration 4 hrs , total ascent 330 m to max. ht. 304m.

Start point: Sweeney's car park, Balloch.

Cnoc Coinnich and the Steeple (photo)(photo)

A steady climb up a forest track leading into open moorland and easy gradient to 761m. Continue down SW ridge passing over hillocks and finally the Steeple before descending to the outward forest track.

Terrain: Mainly trackless moorland, inevitably wet in places. Grass rather than rock under foot.

Distance: 10 km, duration 5 ½ hrs, tot ascent 840 m to max ht. 761m.

Start point: Lochgoilhead centre, lochside car park.

Victoria Bridge to Kings House and back

From car park, along West Highland way to Kings House hotel, returning by same route to start point.

Terrain: Metalled road, rough track.

Distance: 29 km, duration 7 hrs, tot ascent 600 m to max ht. 445m.

Stob a Choire Odhair

A steady climb alongside the Allt Toaig west of Victoria Bridge before following a stalker's track to the subsidiary top of Beinn Toaig. Easy ridge walk to the main summit which gives fine views over the Black Mount and Rannoch Moor. Cross to the bealach with Stob Ghabhar and then descend via Coire Toaig to rejoin the path to Victoria Bridge.

Terrain: Good but wet path on lower ground. Heathery ridge and stalker's path higher up, with stony summit      Distance: 14 km, duration 7 hrs, tot ascent 840 m to max ht. 945m. 522 m.
