Beinn Mhic Mhonaidh (Hill of the son of the moor)

Initially on steep forest road, easing to more gentle rise. The road and forest are left at the Airigh Chailleach. Thereafter is a stretch of steep open grassy hillside. A wide ridge described as a classic highland ridge with some of the best mountain views in Scotland leads to the summit. After passing a lochan a fairly steep grassy descent leads to the end of the forest road and the return to the falls. At one point there is a fine stand of ancient Scots Pine in a reserve.

Terrain: Forest roads and grassy slopes.

Distance: 13½ km, duration 5½ hrs, total ascent 720 m to max. ht. 796 m.

Start point: Glen Orchy, Eas Urchaid Falls. Limited parking.
Note: As this walk is primarily for the views, if visibility is poor we will walk the cycle track from Bridge of Orchy to Eas Urchaid (12km – 2 cars)

It is emphasised that ‘A’ grade walks are strenuous and should only be attempted by those with high standards of fitness and stamina and who are also properly equipped and clothed for the conditions.

Leaders will quite properly turn away those who do not meet these standards as they could create difficulties or danger for other members of the group.
