Starting on the cycle path, this is a wander through Loch Ard Forest passing the above named spots.

Glen Douglas to The Village Inn, Arrocher, (and back)(photo463)(photo464)
Spectacular views to the NW of the The Cobbler, Beinn Narnain and the other Arrocher Alps.
Terrain:
An undulating, rocky, wet track. After 4km, and level with the lowest in a line of pylons, a stake marks the short, steep, rough, boggy descent to a bridge and under the West Highland Railway line. From there to the Village Inn follow red-ringed stakes marking the path through a Church of Scotland Nature Reserve.
Distance: 9 km,
duration 4 hrs(walking), total ascent 505 m to max. ht. 264 m.
Start point:
Roadside car parking on the Glen Douglas road, 1.25 km from the junction of A814 (NS 264 996). NB If you want a meal you must book it well in advance.

Kilpatrick Braes
Up to the Slacks hill top trig point 365m. Views, including the river Clyde.
Terrain:
Rough track moorland and grassy hillside.
Distance: 8 km, duration 3 hrs, total ascent 365m to max ht. 365m.
Start point:
Small car park at pumping station just north of A82. On A814 at Old Kilpatrick, just west of the Erskine Bridge, fork left up Station Road, go under the A82 and fork left onto minor road.

It is emphasised that ‘A’ grade walks are strenuous and should
only be attempted by those with high standards of fitness and stamina and
who are also properly equipped and clothed for the conditions.
Leaders will quite properly turn away those who do not meet these standards
as they could create difficulties or danger for other members of the group. |
