Cardross Circle - (Outdoor Access Festival)

An easy walk round Cardross incorporating beach and country stretches with some places of interest and brief historical notes. Suitable for families with active children.

Terrain: Rocky beach, paths and roads.

Distance: 10 km, duration: 4½ hrs,  total ascent 70 m to max. ht. 70m.

Start point: Ardmore Point.

It is emphasised that ‘A’ grade walks are strenuous and should only be attempted by those with high standards of fitness and stamina and who are also properly equipped and clothed for the conditions.

Leaders will quite properly turn away those who do not meet these standards as they could create difficulties or danger for other members of the group

A

Forest Lodge to Inverawe (photo) (photo)

A long walk through lovely country, starting at Forest Lodge (Victoria Bridge) past Loch Dochard, Meall nan Eun and Beinn nan Aighenan alongside river Kinglas to Loch Etive. The route follows the lochside to reach Inverawe Country Park where the mini-bus will be waiting.

Terrain: Nearly all on forest type roads with some footpaths. What little ascending there is is fairly gentle.

Distance: 35km, duration 10 hrs. total ascent 290 m to max. ht. 279m.

Start point: Car park at Victoria Bridge (A8005).

Ardcastle Wood

Undulating walk around Ardcastle Wood to be taken at a leisurely pace and offering scenic views of Loch Fyne.

Terrain: A mixture of well made tracks and grassy paths. Can be muddy in places depending on the weather.

Distance: 8 km, duration 3 hrs, total ascent 150m  to max. ht. 70m.

Start point: Off-road car park in Ardcastle wood near Lochgilphead.

Sir David Baird's Monument near Crieff

Pleasant walk always on paths but sometimes muddy. Initially alongside river the walk returns through woods.

Terrain: Easy walking with a short climb to the monument. Good views up Strathmore in places.

Distance: 13 km, duration 4 hrs, total ascent 186 m to max ht. 109 m.

Start point: Car park on Sauchie street in Crieff.

Balmaha to Rowardennan - The high way!

This is a linear walk requiring cars at each end. After climbing Conic Hill the route continues west without tracks to Beinn Bhreac followed by Beinn Uird before dropping down to Rowardennan.

Terrain: Moor and mountain.

Distance: 12  km, duration 8 hrs, total ascent 900m to max. 597m.

Start point: Balmaha car park.

Forest walk. We will hope to find some orchids.

Terrain: Forest.

Distance: 12 km, duration 4 to 5 hrs, total ascent 350 m to max ht. 310 m.

We will follow hill tracks and cross open hillside to climb this fine twin topped mountain.

Terrain: Mountain tracks and open hillside.

Distance: 12 km, duration 6½ hrs, total ascent 900 m to max ht. 1025 m.

Start point: Lay-by on A82 opposite Kirkton farm in Strathfillan.
